DualSense calibration online: recalibrate your PS5 controller sticks
Fix a drifting DualSense without a screwdriver. Over a USB cable the browser can write the stick calibration directly into the controller: recentre the sticks, relearn their full range and save it. Free, and nothing is uploaded.

Connect your DualSense over USB to calibrate it
Over a USB cable. Gives access to the touchpad, the mute button and the controller's raw values. Chrome, Edge and Opera only.
Works with DualSense, DualSense Edge and DualShock 4. Xbox controllers cannot be calibrated from the browser; use the Xbox controller test to measure them.

Precise drift measurement
Let go of both sticks and do not touch the controller until it finishes.
Circularity
Traces the outer edge of the stick and measures the radius reached in each of 72 sectors. A healthy stick draws a regular circle; a worn one shows notches and flat spots.
Press Check circularity above, then roll one stick along its outer edge for several full turns, then the other. Both are measured at the same time.
Controller information
This data is only available with direct reading over a USB cable. Go back to the front page and connect the controller by cable.
Stick calibration
With the centre magnified you can see the real resting offset, and below are the controller's raw values: the measured centre and the maximum travel reached on each axis.
Left stick
Right stick
Calibration is only available with direct reading over a USB cable. Connect the controller by cable to calibrate it.
Stick centre
Sets where rest position is. This is what fixes drift when the controller moves on its own.
Stick range
Learns how far each stick reaches. Fixes not hitting the edge, or a flattened circle.
Fine tuning
The twelve internal values, one by one. For when automatic calibration leaves something off.
Calibration wizard
Changes are temporary until you press “Save changes permanently”. If something goes wrong, “Restart the controller” discards anything you haven't saved.
🔒 Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored on any server.
How to calibrate a PS5 controller online
- 1Plug in the DualSense over USB
Calibration is written through the cable. Over Bluetooth the controller only accepts reads.
- 2Press “Connect PlayStation controller”
Chrome, Edge or Opera will ask for permission. Pick the Wireless Controller and the Calibration tab opens.
- 3Calibrate the centre
Follow the wizard: release the sticks, then push each one into the four corners. The controller learns where “rest” really is. This is what fixes drift.
- 4Calibrate the range, then save
Roll both sticks around their edge for 15 seconds so the controller relearns its maximum travel. Press “Save changes permanently”.
What DualSense calibration actually changes
Every DualSense stores a small table in its memory: the resting value of each axis, the minimum and maximum it can reach, and a few fine-tuning constants. The controller uses that table to turn the raw sensor reading (0–255 per axis) into the ‑1…+1 value the console sees. When the sensor wears, the physical rest position moves but the table does not, and the console starts receiving movement you are not making. That is stick drift.
Calibrating means rewriting that table with the current, real values. Nothing is opened, nothing is replaced; the controller is simply told where its centre is now. It is the same operation Sony's service centres run, exposed through the browser's WebHID API. The write commands come from the open-source dualshock-tools project, which padvitals ports and wraps with the measurement and thresholds.
Centre calibration vs range calibration
| Operation | Fixes | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Stick centre | Drift: the camera or character moving on their own | Resting deviation above 2 % in the PS5 controller test |
| Stick range | Not reaching full speed, a flattened circle, sprint not triggering | Reach below 95 % or a squashed circularity plot |
Run the centre calibration first. Most drifting controllers only need that one. Range calibration is for sticks that no longer reach the edge, which the circularity test makes obvious.
Is it safe? Can I brick my controller?
Changes are temporary until you press “Save changes permanently”: they live in the controller's RAM and disappear on the next power cycle. If the result feels wrong, press “Restart the controller” and everything unsaved is discarded. Saving writes to the controller's flash memory, the same memory that holds its firmware settings; the write is small and takes under a second. Thousands of controllers have been calibrated this way through dualshock-tools without a reported brick. Even so: do not unplug the cable while the save bar is moving.
When calibration will not fix it
- Deviation above 8–10 %. The table can be rewritten, but a sensor that far off is physically worn and will drift again within weeks. Measure it first with the drift test.
- Jitter or noise at rest. Calibration moves the centre; it cannot remove noise. A noisy stick shows as a large cloud in the 10x zoom. That is a dirty or worn potentiometer: cleaning or a new module.
- Drift that comes and goes. Usually a stick that sticks mechanically (dust, a worn cap) rather than a sensor offset.
If the controller is under warranty, claim it rather than calibrating: a calibration hides the symptom but does not reset the wear. For everything else, the options ordered by cost are in how to tell if your controller has drift.

Frequently asked questions
Can I calibrate a PS5 controller without a PC?
Not fully. The PS5 itself only lets you change the dead zone in some games. Rewriting the stick calibration needs a USB cable and a browser with WebHID (Chrome, Edge or Opera on a computer).
Does DualSense calibration work over Bluetooth?
No. Over Bluetooth the controller does not accept the calibration commands. Use a USB-C cable.
Will calibrating void my warranty?
It does not open the controller or change its firmware, and it leaves no trace a service centre would look for. But if the controller is still under warranty, claiming it is the better route: calibration masks wear, it does not repair it.
Does this work with the DualSense Edge?
Yes. The Edge uses a slightly different save procedure, which the tool handles with a progress bar. DualShock 4 (PS4) controllers are also supported.
How often should I recalibrate?
Only when the drift test shows a resting deviation above 2 %. If you need to recalibrate every few weeks, the sensor is worn and replacing the stick module is the real fix.
